What I learned this year!!!!!!!!!!
1) Don't be afraid to speak up
Throughout the civil rights movement, there were many events that changed history and affected how us people in society interact. During this time blacks and whites, we were going through a time that called "segregated but equal" meaning that whites and blacks did have the same rights but both groups could not be together. Schools, water fountains, buses, jobs, and many more. Places usually had signs "colored only" and usually in schools, many could tell the difference between white students classes they are clean, new books, and organized but in black schools they are dirty, old books, and small. But this changed when Emmit Till funeral showed the black folks that it was time to change things leading to the bus boycotts meaning not riding the bus anymore after Rosa Parks was demanded to move. Also the Greensboro sit-ins and Martin Luther King speech "I Had a Dream"these events played a role showing that you can speak up for what's right and not be afraid to show your voice. Like these event and role models, we can look at the fought for the freedom to integrate whites and black and it has played a major role how people nowadays interact with each other and can work without having any social tensions.
2) YOLO
As we know the roaring 20's was the life of the party. This was the time that drinking, dancing, girls, money, rich, and gangsters were all about. The biggest gangster Al Capone was rising, girls were getting wilder and having more fun shorter dresses and hair. This was my favorite unit because everyone should know how to have a little fun. All the crime that was committed during this time bootleggers and illegally making beer and consuming it. The Lost Generation also played a role by creating books of why during this time this generation was wild and free. One example is F. Scott Fitzgerlad he wrote the book The Great Gatsby talking about the stock market and how there was a division between rich and poor. But we have to remember during this time it was all fun and games but stock market had crashed and hurt out economic leading it to the great depression. But sometimes in moments seem to be a little party doesn't kill nobody.
3) Leadership
There were many great leaders throughout our history. Some examples are during World War Two our president Franklin D. Roosevelt showed great leadership by showing even though he was diagnosed with polio that didn't stop him ending World War 2 by bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Even though Hilter was bad and
very cruel he showed great leadership and determination by showing he could go from delivering mail in the trenches to all of Germany and taking over other countries around. With his great leadership that helps give amazing speeches and persuades everyone, he met to trust him even his ally, Stalin. Even Stalin wasn't the nicest person but he was able to spread communism and became allies with Korea. JFK was an excellent president and major hottie but anyways he led us through the Space Arms Race with Russia and showing leadership by giving amazing speeches making us Americans more nationalistic and wanting to work harder to send a man up to space and after landing on the moon. But even though some leader is good and bad both have one thing in common having great leadership knowing how to talk to their country and have a great love for their people.
4) SNAKES
American History was interesting and all but the funny part was that even before my generation there were so many snakes in our society. Like Japan when they came and bomb Pearl Harbor even though they said that we were going to talk it out first. Even America is a snake when Japan bombed us all of sudden we started to segregated the Japanese-Americans into camps to see if they are spies to put Americans in danger also connecting with the Cold War in America the Red Scare became a big problem everyone thought to be a spy and a new concept arise called McCarthyism making crazy accusations who would look like spy or had something to do with Russia. Also, Hitler was a big snake when he turned his back against Russia that was a big event even after he looked up to Stalin and was his ally he went ahead took over Russia WOW! So be careful anyone can be snake even in pass it was clearly in our government.
5) Don't be stuck up
Well at the beginning American was technically trying to kick out the Native Americans fighting about land and making them move taking away their home they called also. Also during great migration when blacks came south to north to work and have a better life they didn't, it could actually be the same or worse in the north. Many came but it was not equal they had to work as servants, segregated because of their color, beaten, accused of nothing, and lack of freedom. Many whites believe that they were over blacks and could control but they didn't understand that everyone is equal. During the industrialization, many factory owners treated their employers badly and paid them less because they were immigrants. Also, they had child labor and many children had to work in bad conditions and ended up killing them. So don't judge by color, race, immigrant or not everyone is equal and we all are humans.
